Robert D. Dittman currently serves as a Legal Assistance Attorney in the Legal Affairs Office, District 8 Headquarters New Orleans Louisiana. In this role, he provides guidance to Coast Guard members and Commands on general legal interpretations. Some specific areas include, but are not limited to family law, consumer protection, and Texas specific laws.

He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, and is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. Of note, one of his Legal memos was pivotal in updating the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) to provide better medical protections for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary; the uniformed volunteer component of Coast Guard Forces.

Mr. Dittman also is currently assigned as a Legal Officer to the District 8 Incident Management Team which is tasked with preparing for, responding to, and assisting with the recovery from incidents within the seven state area of operations of the 8th Coast Guard District.

Mr. Dittman currently has a solo law practice in Seguin, Texas and his focus is in the areas of criminal defense, civil litigation, and legal advocacy. Mr. Dittman has twice been recognized by the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Legal Assistance for Military Personnel. In 2020 he was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award as a member of the “U.S. Coast Guard 2020 Contingency Response Legal Support Teams” for “exceptional performance in the area of legal assistance.”

Mr. Dittman’s direct role included deploying as a part of the Coast Guard response to Hurricane Delta providing Legal support to Coast Guard units and their families. In 2015 He received the “Outstanding Services Award” for “Extraordinary Pro Bono services through the ABA Military Pro Bono Project.”

From 1997 – 1999 Mr. Dittman completed training in both United States Army and United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Academic classes and leadership laboratories while attending college and university. His units were located at San Antonio Community College (conducted through US Army ROTC Battalion, St. Mary’s University), and the University of Texas at San Antonio (USAF ROTC Detachment 842) respectively.

From 1999 – 2000 Mr. Dittman instituted the formation and served as Executive Officer and Drill Instructor of Alpha Company, Alaska Young Marines, Kenai, Alaska. which is the youth program authorized under the U.S. Marine Corps' Drug Demand Reduction Program.

He received the personal Challenge Coin of the Executive Director of the Young Marines for his efforts. He also volunteered as an “Honorary United States Marine Corps Recruiter from 1998 – 2000 in both San Antonio, Texas and Kenai Alaska and participated in all recruiting operations.

Robert Dittman is married to Kirstiana Dawn Dittman, of Mineola Texas, who holds a Bachelor of Science civil engineering degree from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.
